There are two winners here...Cobra and
Beltronics STI. Exposed to three radar detector detectors, RDDs, detectors approached from the 1000 foot cone at 30 mph.  Cobra XRS R10 G, Cobra  XRS 9960 G, and Beltronics STI were not detected by any RDD on any attempt.  If a detector was detected, the test vehicle was told to stop. Its detection distance was measured by a laser gun’s range mode to the foot of detection. Each detector was given two tries at each RDD.

The RDDs were provided and operated by police agencies. They were the VG-2, which is no longer in manufactured, the Spectre 3, and Spectre 4. Here are the results! N/D means Not Detected. D means Detected followed by the feet where the detector was detected.

Worry about RDDs if you drive an 18 wheeler nationally or drive a car in Virginia or Washington, D.C. Radar detectors in commercial vehicles were
banned February 2005 in all states by USDOT.
Truckers don’t buy expensive radar detectors. They toss the cheap one they bought at the truck stop out their window if pulled over by police. They can now say they don’t have one.  Don’t buy cheap protection!
